it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
When I brought an old LEGO set from home into school a few weeks ago, I had no idea how captivated my students would be by the small bricks. Normally reserved students came to life, collaborating with others and studying the manual. Zero cell phones were out or being used— the students were locked into the bricks.
LEGO bricks are a powerful tool for engaging students in STEM learning because they encourage hands-on experimentation, critical thinking, and creativity.
Building with Legos also requires spatial reasoning and problem-solving, key components of engineering and technology skills. Students learn to approach challenges systematically, experimenting with different structures or methods to reach a desired outcome.
Students will meet after school in our newly created Lego Club to build the creations. The dedicated time at the end of the day provides a safe space for students to think creatively and learn new STEM concepts. After building each set using the provided manual, students will be challenged to build something completely different using the same bricks.
