My Students
I teach 26 enthusiastic Kindergarten students. It is the first classroom experience for many of my students. My students are at an age where art, movement, and dramatic play are the most meaningful and exciting times of the day. I use these times to reinforce many concepts each day. My students come from many different cultural backgrounds. Some of my students are from low-income families who qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, some have special needs and have an Individualized Education Plan, and others are second language learners. This diverse group of learners need hands on experiences to express learning through fine motor development, personal development, and imagination.
My Project
Building materials such as the Log Builders Master Set, Build and Play Logic Puzzles, and I Can Build It! Architecture Set will give my students endless opportunities to create and share during our free Exploration time. At our Urban Planning Magnet school, many of the project based learning activities include creating and designing ways to improve our community, and these materials will give my students the opportunity to explore with age appropriate materials.
By donating to my project, you will help provide hands-on building experiences that will encourage creativity and inspire budding architects.
Research shows that free exploration and free play, helps young children develop language and reasoning skills, encourages autonomous thinking and problem solving as well as helps improve their ability to focus and control their behavior. The materials requested will encourage learning through play and increase desired classroom behaviors.
It is through play that children at a very early age engage and interact in the world around them. By supporting my project, you will reach the lives of many students for years to come.
