My Students

My kindergarten students are a group of 5 and 6-year olds who learn with EASE: that is, they are eager, adaptable, social, and enthusiastic leaners! They are eager to learn about the world. They have adapted to gathering virtually and in-person this school year. They are social individuals who love interacting with each other. They enthusiastically show up to learn each day.

These resilient kindergarteners have been learning in person since November.

However, due to the current circumstances, they have not been able to go on field trips.

Our school is located in Hawaii on the windward side of Oahu. Our students come from different ethnic backgrounds, most predominantly Pacific Islander (28%) and multiple ethnicities (29%). Thirty-four percent of our families receive free or reduced cost lunches.

My Project

These books will help my students learn about the plants and animals that live in Hawaiian tide pools.

Although we live in Hawaii with an aquarium and a tide pool approximately 7 miles away, those locations are inaccessible to us this year.

This collection of books will be a valuable resource for my students to use in the classroom in addition to online resources. Together we will read and learn about tide pools and their inhabitants.

My students will use what they learn and write their own informational books about tide pool plants and animals.
