This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our school is a Title I school in the heart of North Philadelphia. Most of my kids are living under the poverty line. My students don't have access to their own copies of books at home and depend on the school to provide them. My goal is to bring my kids equity and give them the opportunity to enhance their imaginations and improve their writing skills. I want to do this by updating my dated classroom library.
When students see new items in our room they become excited to use the items.
Our school motto is ROAR and ownership is one of our focuses in our school.
Our goal in our school is to create lifelong readers who enjoy chapter books, including the Magic Treehouse or Princess Fairy Tales series, and getting lost in a story.
My goal this year is to expose my students to books that they might not normally read. For example, the past few years I have collected multiple versions of Cinderella. The students now have well over 20 different versions that expose them to other cultures from around the world. On my list you will see lots of books that are from a different character's point of view. I want to expose my kids to other sides of stories. I also have picked chapter books and books about growth mindset. All of these are to enrich my scholars.
