Help me give my students colored pencils. Many of my students lack basic art supplies. Colored pencils are essential as they can be used for a variety of projects and are easy to store.
My students are some of the most amazing artists you would ever have to pleasure to meet. They are imaginative thinkers, detail oriented creators, and constantly surprise me. They are also from low income families, and are now isolated, scared, and running out of art supplies. Not in a million years, would I have ever thought I would be teaching art virtually, but that is the challenge are now faced with. My students need art supplies to continue creating. Art gives them relief from the stress of the world they are currently facing, and the means to express themselves.
My Project
My young artists need to continue creating art, especially during these scary times. Every day on message boards, students are writing they don't have art supplies. Either they have run out, or had depended on the school to supply them. The majority of our students are immigrants, and live at or below the poverty line. Many of my students, for whom English is a second language, have difficulty expressing themselves through oral and written assignments.
Art gives my students the means to express how they feel, especially now.
Colored pencils are a great choice for all artists. Students can create detailed work, or add color to a collage, drawing, lettering, or photo. They are also easy to store and keep at home while students learn remotely.
