My Students

My first graders always walk in with a smile on their faces ready to learn. They always strive for academic readiness no matter what the situation is.

This pandemic with COVID-19 and the Winter Storm that hit Texas this weekend has caused an enormous amount of social emotional stress on my students and parents.

My students come from a very low socio-economic area, with very little resources to engage them in learning. The students that make up my classroom are 99% low income and at risk for dropping out before finishing high-school.

I want to build a stress free foundation in my classroom, so when they leave my classroom they are motivated and excited about learning. I want them to carry the passion of learning with them forever. Your support and generosity is greatly appreciated.

My Project

These materials will help my students tremendously during math. It's so hard having my students share materials during this pandemic. I currently teach hybrid which means that I'm teaching in person and online at the same time and sometimes I find it difficult having my virtual students online without any physical math manipulatives for them to follow along when I'm teaching a lesson. These individual math manipulative kits will allow my virtual and my in person students to practice their skills during whole group lessons while I'm modeling. It will also allow them to build modeled of their math problem strategy. One of the problems solving strategies is for them to solve the problem in 4 different ways BUILD IT, DRAW IT, SOLVE IT, and EXPLAIN IT. It's a visual check for understanding for me to analyze the student process. It will also allow me to maximize instructional time by allowing me to only reteach the misconceptions.
