Help me give my students a diverse collection of books that will provide an opportunity for discussing current events that kids may have heard about on the news, in the classroom, or at home.

My favorite part of my days are when I walk into my co-teachers classroom and I am greeted by all the children in the classroom. I am an ESL teacher and I work with all levels of students from kindergarten through fifth grade. They make my heart sing every day when I see their beautiful smiles. I truly have the most amazing students. Each child comes with unique experiences but they all need the same thing...LOVE. My favorite part is when they hug me and say, "Where have you been all day?"
Diverse books are important because they teach people about others. They help promote respect and empathy for all types of people. Books have the power to encourage students while at the same time enlighten other readers of the truths about lives they don't live.
Reading books that represent different abilities, cultures, beliefs, and skin colors help us change our attitude toward those differences.
Offering a diverse titles for my students will allow my students to both step into the shoes of the others. Seeing bullying or injustice happen in the world of a book can give a child a new perspective on what’s happening in their own school or community
