A real-life author! I can hear our students now... "Oh my goodness!", "This is so cool!" For our 3rd graders to have the experience to hear an author speak about his thoughts and the process he went through to write and publish his book is very exciting! Along with being able to go deeper into the text by having a discussion about the character's feelings, how and why they can relate to the character. This experience will be priceless! Students at this age are sponges so exposure to this will really grab their attention!
This experience could plant the seeds for the next great author of our lifetime!
Making reading and writing fun in school can be challenging. Making reading and writing relate to real life can also be challenging, especially when you are competing with TV and video games. So, having an author that the students can see, converse with, and discuss the book in depth, while also receiving their own copy of his book, "Honest Sincere", would be phenomenal.
