My special education students have used the same reinforcers for almost two years. They have been well-loved and worn out so much that they are no longer reinforcing. We use reinforcers such as glittery toys, squishy things, stuffed animals, and putty to encourage our students to work. When our students don't have items they want to work for, we see increased behaviors and decreased productivity.
Each of our students is different and special.
Most have different interests, sensory needs, and skills. A few of our younger students seek sensory input through texture, lights, and sound. Our older students enjoy quality time spent with adults and learn through play. Each fun and functional item on our list will fill these needs as well as encourage our students to learn.
