We just joined grades K-2 and 3-5 into the same school. I teach third grade, which includes all curriculum areas (math, science, social studies, reading, spelling, English, computers, and art). We love our new school, but not the budget problems we now face. Setting up your classroom to benefit all students with as many opportunities as possible to succeed is very tough. With this being my second year of teaching, I still need lots of materials to get those opportunities for my students.

With the NCLB (No Child Left Behind Act) coming to its deadline (2014), our test scores for the Dakota STEP assessment test need to keep rising. We just found out this year that the math section on the tests (including 3 grade, which is the first year we test students) is going to be almost all problem solving questions. This is a tough skill to master at such a young age. If we have more opportunities for our students to learn (easy to difficult levels), it will increase our chances for high test scores for our students on the DSTEP test in March/April.

Since the math area on the DSTEP test is going to be almost all problem solving questions and 1 1/2 months before the end of school, we need math manipulatives! The problem solving activities and the math manipulative we would receive would greatly benefit our students to strive to their best potential and prepare them for the test coming.

Most students do well on the math number computations on tests (345 + 146 =___). When you add words, numbers they might not need, thinking time to know where to start and how to solve the problem, frustration kicks in! With these math manipulatives, you will help my students self-confidence in math towards the preparation of the Dakota STEP assessment test. I hope we can continue to reach the "all students being proficient" level as the NCLB requires. You will help to reach this goal.
