This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are some of the hardest working students I know. They inspire me every day to be a better teacher. Their positive attitudes and dedication to learning propel me forward to continue my education and knowledge of the subjects I teach.
What would life be without music?
As a music teacher, I get to see how music affects my students' everyday lives. I see it bring joy when they finally play the first note on their instrument. I have seen it bring sorrow when a song reminds them of passed loved ones. I see music bring understanding to other core subjects when their brain makes vital connections! Music is not just a subject in school but it's part of life!
My Project
Did you ever have to take a music class such as music appreciation or music history or general music? Many people who have taken these courses find themselves in a class in which listening is the main objective. Music is so much more than something to listen to!
Students in my school need your help to get access to musical instruments such as Orff xylophones that will allow students to actually learn how to play music and create music rather than just listening to music.
This approach to learning gives students ownership of their learning and will aid in their overall social and cognitive development.
