My students need recess equipment like sidewalk chalk, jump ropes and basketballs to play with each day, and healthy snacks like granola bars to have stronger bodies!

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
When asked what their favorite time of day is, many students respond RECESS! They love to get outside and play with their friends. My students come from challenging backgrounds, but are ready for school each day and love being together. They want to play soccer, jump rope, draw with chalk and much more!
Being active at recess and playing with friends is often the best part of my students' days!
Because of the safety in the neighborhood and parents at work, many of my students don't have an opportunity to spend time outside at home, so school is their favorite place to play!
My Project
Recess can be boring if there is nothing to play with. Although my students amaze me with their ability to make up games, equipment makes it so much more fun! When students can play soccer and practice their kicking they are doing much more than just running around. When others can draw with sidewalk chalk they are able to draw a hop scotch rather than just jump around. When they can use a rubber ball to play kickball as a class they are working together while becoming healthier and stronger!
Every student has different likes and dislikes and having choices at recess allows them each to have fun!
Some vote for soccer and some vote for football while others draw with chalk or jump rope together. Having opportunities to play with all of the equipment makes students much more active and excited for recess! After students play outside in the hot weather they need some water and snacks to get their energy back to be ready to learn. Research shows that students have improved learning when it is paired with physical activity. My students want to spend time playing so they are ready to learn!
