The students in my class all have severe and profound mental disabilities. They come from a very poor area of town.
I began teaching this class in October. The students are all nonverbal, and many are blind, deaf, or both. The students are most motivated by new and different adaptive toys. I have found they respond best when the toys are rotated on a daily basis. Unfortunately we do not have enough toys for all 12 children in the class. They are all highly motivated by music and vibration.
The vibrating bubble is a switch toy that the students can use to demonstrate understanding of cause and effect. The toy is also stimulating and motivating to the students because many are blind, deaf, or both. The bubble provides a vibrating sensation. The musical keyboard is another toy that the students will enjoy. They all love music and even those that cannot hear well can feel the vibration of music. The balls will serve the same purpose. They will be used to stimulate the children's senses. With the bell balls, the students will feel the vibrations in their hands and see the cause and effect of moving the ball to get the sound.
Your help will ensure that my students can experience the simple pleasure of communication through music and vibration.
