Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a high poverty elementary school with close to 800 students that are located in a neighborhood that is settled in the middle of an industrial area. Aside from all of the trucks that rumble by, there is a high rate of crime in the surrounding area. All of the students receive a free lunch because of their socio-economic status. My students are faced with several challenges, both in and out of the classroom. They all are English Language Learners and many of them have learning disabilities. Despite the many challenges they face, they are always ready to learn, especially if I provide them with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
Seeing the excitement in kids' eyes when they learn something new makes teaching the best job ever.
My students need as many hands-on experiences as possible in school, to enhance and reinforce their learning.
My Project
My students have been attending school from home since March of 2020. They are getting antsy and need some equipment to have fun and stay active.
These balls will allow them to do exercise and have fun at the same time.
Most of them do not have play equipment at home. They need these balls so that they can go outside and run around and get dirty. These resources are safe and sturdy enough for us to even play some games together through our online platform! Help me give my students a reason to go outside and play.
