Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a head basketball coach for a high school in the inner city.
When I started working here over a year ago I walked into a mess. We had mismatched uniforms and basketballs that were five years old. Skip ahead a year and the program is on the right track. We got a new athletic director that supports the athletes and sees how vital sports are to keeping our students safe and healthy. We got a new staff that is committed to the longevity of the basketball program. The school got a new set of uniforms for the varsity level last year, cones for training, a ball cage to keep our equipment safe, and the community is starting to rally around us.
The student athletes have flourished in the one year I have been there. They are fully committed and spend countless hours in the gym to better their skills. The gym is a safe place for our athletes, many students use it as an outlet to escape the trouble on the streets.
My Project
The materials I am requesting will help our athletes reach their full potential on the court. I have players who come into the gym six days a week who want to be their very best. I would like to help them with that. I believe getting this training equipment will be a good first step.
The training equipment will help improve their strength, conditioning, shooting and overall performance.
A lot of families struggle and donations are hard to come by. Please help my students athletes fulfill their dreams. I believe that great things are done by a series of small things brought together.
