My Students
"Teachers who love teaching, teach children to love learning." I truly believe this statement. I do love my job and I want my students to love learning. I believe that students can learn through games. Not just the concepts, but social skills as well.
I currently have 19 wonderful third grade students at a Title One elementary school.
They vary in learning styles and abilities. I want to be able to differentiate for all of the different levels of learning in my classroom. If a concept can be learned through a game, that is fantastic.
My students are very thoughtful and kind and work well together even though they have differences. My school is about 20 years old and has a high poverty rate. We also have working parents who want the best for their kids and are unable to provide tutoring and after school activities.
My Project
My students will play these games during our literacy block at least twice a week. I believe that games are a great way to engage their minds and keep them interested in the subject. I would love for them to enjoy playing these games and ask if they can play. With these reading comprehension games, they will be able to comprehend literature better. It will give them strategies in which to use when reading complex text. They will also be able to teach each other through talking playing the games. In many cases students can teach each other just as well if not better than the teacher themselves.
Having this donated to our room will promote a love of learning and engage the students minds through play.
They will be able to work on social skills and teach each other. They will be able to grow academically and be proud of their accomplishments. When students are proud of themselves it can follow them through the grades and build confidence. It can extend into adulthood.
