This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach a wonderful, excited, curious group of 2nd grade students. My students come from mostly low-income families where English is not their first language. 100% of the students at the school receive free lunch and breakfast. Every day these young children come to school to learn. They face challenges, but they all try their best.
Regardless of what is going on at home or outside our classroom my students work hard.
We all try to make the most of every day. They do their best and try to learn from their mistakes. Our classroom is a place they are have freedom to be their best selves.
My Project
My students have been learning from home for the past year and a half. STEM building materials will let my students learn to work fine motor skills while working independently or with a partner. Using a variety of materials, from building bricks to wax covered yarn, will encourage students to use think in different ways. The materials will also build the fine motor skills that students need. Sharing ideas with each other will build their language skills.
STEM bins will encourage creative thinking and planning skills.
Students will work to create, solve problems, and negotiate with their peers. My students need access to quality, engaging materials to help them grow.
