My students need a kit to help them to understand that light can travel in a straight line until it strikes an object or travels from one medium to another.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Oliver's classroom raised $241

My Students
Many concepts can be difficult to understand in science, but how light travels may be one of the most perplexing. Reading about light in a science textbook doesn't allow for a student to visualize how light can be reflected, refracted, and absorbed. We need materials to show us how light works.
Our students are a diverse population.
Mirroring our district we have about 33% White, 33% Hispanic, and 33% African American. We have scores that show growth, but we would like to become a school of excellence in our district. Our students, faculty and PTA work hard to make our school the best it can be.
My Project
Our students need a way to show the unique properties of light. Light has so many amazing qualities, but most are difficult to understand without some hands-on assistance. We need a light and optics lab to be able show these properties. With this kit our students will be able to analyze experiments showing how light can be reflected, absorbed, and refracted. Students will demonstrate how particular colors can be shown through a prism. This kit will supply us with the mirrors, prisms, glasses, lasers, and filters we need to show how light travels and its role in our everyday lives. All of these items will help us meet our new state standards adopted for the 2012-2013 school year.
Remember how much fun science can be when you are really engaged with a great lab?
The light and optics lab will do that for our students. With your donations we will go hands on with light and be able to make those text to real world connections that great science labs can bring.
