This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our seventh grade science classroom is a place of challenge, discovery, and enthusiasm. My young scientists come from a low-income/high-poverty neighborhood, but their smiles and determination in the classroom every day is nearly unfailing. They have an amazing desire for education and they work hard to build each other up and do their best. This year we'll learn how to think about science, not what to think, and I know this new curriculum will benefit my students for the rest of their lives.
My Project
As part of our new SEEd standards for this school year, my students need to explore and understand the relationship between cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems. We look at various systems and how they work together in the body. Frogs are an amazing model for young scientists to really understand what goes on inside their own bodies, and to make connections between the organ systems we see in pictures or diagrams, and what those systems really look like.
My seventh graders have aspirations of becoming veterinarians, surgeons, and nurses.
These dissection materials will allow them to explore those passions, and hopefully ignite passions in other budding scientists. I can't wait to share this experience with my students!
