This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a special education teacher in a low socioeconomic Title I school where all the students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. My class consists of 25 students: 12 students with special needs and 13 General Education.
My kids are faced with many challenges in and outside the classroom.
Many are academically two years below grade level. Many of my students come from single parent homes. Although my kids have varying disabilities (LD, Autism, ED and Mentally Handicapped), they are eager to learn and succeed. I want to provide an atmosphere that is safe and welcoming.
Help me engage and inspire my students by being a partner in their learning.
My Project
This year I'm teaching first grade, lunch is more like breakfast (10:30) so needless to say my babies are hungry by 12:00. Keeping snacks on hand is essential in keeping my students energized and focused.
Primary notebooks is a must for children learning to write their letters.
Telling a story through pictures allows the children to be creative and my students love to draw. Kids tend to be overwhelmed when they see all the lines in a notebook. But having the picture box and a few lines helps build their confidence. All they need to do to be successful is draw and write a line or two.
Having a large magnetic sentence strip allows me to model the proper letter formation.
