Help me give my students the ability to choose a book by its cover! These wire display stands will allow me to transform the library shelves using the visual merchandising strategies of successful bookstores.

My Students

NGHS students work hard and like to have fun. Our students enjoy using the library to hang out and relax. We have some very active and engaged readers who check-out many books from the library. We also have emerging readers looking for something to spark their interest in the library.

My Project

In an effort to increase circulation, I started researching different successful strategies for accomplishing that goal. Camacho, Spackman, and Cluff (2014) found a 58% increase in circulation of titles that were faced out in a display.

Fiscus (2017) states: “To promote their materials and increase sales, bookstores heavily face-out and display their wares.

We [libraries] should too. There’s a reason that book covers are beautiful and eye-catching: they are meant to be seen. And though the old adage may be true, we all totally judge books by their covers.” (p. 37)

I want to transform our library from rows of shelving with only spines visible, to the look of a bookstore with book covers facing out. I want to allow my students the opportunity to see the beautiful book covers as they browse, which will hopefully encourage students to check out more books and read more books.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
