Help me give my students some awesome items to help them maintain their focus in the classroom! These seat cushions, fidgets, and bouncy bands are proven to let kids get out "the wiggles", but still focus!
My school is comprised of 390 students. Of those students, 63% qualify for free or reduced lunch. We have just recently attained Title I status due to this. I have seen that my students are faced with many challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite these challenges they face, they still want to learn and succeed. My students deserve every opportunity to do so. I have also noticed that many of my students do not have access to books at home. Which leads to lower reading interests and scores. I strive to make them love to read, what better goal is there?
How can we close the achievement gap when students do not have the basic school supplies they need to succeed?
Students that do not have their supplies are proven to be left behind as well as feel like they are not good enough. No child should have to feel inferior to another due to circumstances that are out of their control.
My Project
These items will make a huge difference in the learning of my students. The bouncy seats are silent, but will allow them to bounce their legs and feet on their chair. This way they are moving, but able to focus on the lesson or the assignment at hand. The round cushions are great for kids that like to bounce their bodies in their chairs. Again they do not make noise, but allow the student to move. Lastly, the small fidgets are great to have on each desk. They allow the students to "fidget" if needed, but do not distract.
All of these items will do one thing: allow ALL of my kids to FOCUS.
They students that need to move (children diagnosed with ADD or ADHD for example) to maintain focus will get that. The students that do not need to move have the added benefit of these fidgets being silent, so they will not be distracted by a constant clinking or tapping. It is a win-win for every student in my room.
