Let Them Fidget, Let Them Focus Part II

Help me give my students anti-stress and fidget gadgets to help them maintain their focus in class.

My Students

My school is comprised of 390 students. Of those students, 63% qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. We have just recently attained Title I status due to this. I have seen that my students are faced with many challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite these challenges they face, they still want to learn and succeed. My students deserve every opportunity to do so. I have also noticed that many of my students do not have access to books at home. Which leads to lower reading interests and scores. I strive to make them love to read, what better goal is there?

How can we close the achievement gap when students do not have the basic school supplies they need to succeed?

Students that do not have their supplies are proven to be left behind as well as feel like they are not good enough. No child should have to feel inferior to another due to circumstances that are out of their control.

My Project

These items will make a huge difference in the learning of my students. All of the items in our wish list are items that are proven to help kids fidget, but not be distracted. They are also silent, as to distract any other student in the room. These fidgets will placed in boxes at each group, so every child will have access to whichever fidget is best for them. They will allow the students to "fidget" if needed, but do not distract. The students that need to move (children diagnosed with ADD or ADHD for example) to maintain focus will get the ability to do just that with the key ring fidgets, the spiky rolly balls, and the eye popper key chains. The students that do not need to move have the added benefit of these fidgets being silent, so they will not be distracted by a constant clinking or tapping. It is a win-win for every student in my room.

All of these items will do one thing: allow all of my kids to focus.

These gadgets are also proven to help relieve stress and anxiety among students. The DNA balls, the spiky finger rings, and liquid motion timer, and the puffer balls are all proven to be anti-stress objects for students. Student stress levels are at an all time high, wouldn't it be nice to help alleviate some of that stress for them?!
