Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is full of funny, diverse, energetic, intelligent, clever, and inquisitive kindergartners! My students come from many different backgrounds and therefore have many different learning styles. They work extremely hard every day to learn how to read, write, add, subtract, make friends, and much more.
Though my students face many unique challenges, they love school and show up each day ready to learn.
They are very creative and find new ways to show that in their work each day.
My students are excited about everything they are going to learn this year. I am so grateful to be their teacher!
My Project
My class is full of exciting, energetic, and extremely hard working students. They spend most of their day at school learning to read books, practicing sight words, learning to read, write, and recognize numbers so they can then learn to add and subtract, and drafting their own stories. They do all of this alongside their peers while still learning how to interact and thrive in a school environment.
While I think the value of their hard work cannot be understated, I think it is equally as important for my students to spend time imagining, creating, and playing with each other!
Dramatic and active play is an extremely valuable part of an early childhood classroom. Not only does free play time encourage individuality, creativity, and teamwork, it also gives students a chance to reset after working so hard throughout the day.
I have asked for new kitchen items, career kits, and manipulative sets that will promote critical thinking and utilize math skills as well. I believe these items will encourage my students to work together, problem solve, and begin to form close friendships. Additionally, they will get to witness the different ways their minds can work hard outside of a traditional classroom setting!
