This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are Oscar worthy actors! I teach art in a small, urban high school for students with special needs. Supplies are hard to come by.
My students love to sing, dance and perform, and every year we put on at least one production and invite other special needs students from all over the city. The kids are great, but it's hard to hear them without a microphone. Most of our students have speech problems anyway, so getting them to project their voices can be difficult. Many of them also have physical disabilities to overcome, so a microphone with a cord can be a real hazard on stage.
If we had a couple of wireless microphones, our kids could be heard without yelling, and they could focus on their physical movements. Their productions would take on a more professional feel, and they would feel like pros as well.
You will make it possible for my students to let their voices be heard and help to develop the stage presence that I know they are capable of.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
