Let Their Literacy Lights Shine as Bright as the Stars
My students need a way to learn about history while enriching their reading abilities. We need 25 copies of the book Number the Stars as well as activities to improve their reading skills.
My classroom typically consists of 25 phenomenally, hard-working students. The majority of my students come from impoverished homes. Approximately half of my students are English Language Learners; however, they do not let this hold them back when it comes to their academic curiosity.
We are an extremely positive and inclusive classroom where we praise the process of learning to include failing (First Attempts In Learning).
We admire and accept that everyone has unique skills and talents that make our learning community complete. We strive to use the relationships we build with each other to push our learning to the next level through friendly competition and factual debate. I know that these students will grow up to make their mark on society!
My Project
Students in my classroom come from lower socio-economic backgrounds. This can limit their access to inspirational literary resources. We cannot read a book as a class unless every student has access to a copy. This is why we need 25 copies of the book "Number the Stars". When reading as a group, it is imperative that we align the book to the Content Standards. I am requesting activities that aid in the curriculum alignment.
The chosen book, not only aids in literacy, it also gives students an entry point into a critical time in our world's history.
The goal is to simultaneously cover both Social Studies and Reading. The book also brings multiple opportunities to discuss conflict resolution.
