This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach pre-kindergarten in Mississippi. Our school consists of students from a variety of economic and ethnic backgrounds that come together every day to learn and grow, with 100% of students at my school participating in a free lunch plan and the majority of my students learning English as their second language. Being a pre-kindergarten teacher, all of my students enter with a wide range of ability levels. These different ability levels require various teaching materials, methods, and multiple picture displays to ensure understanding.
My Project
I will use these journals in my Pre-K classroom to enhance my students writing and processing abilities. Our first semester consisted of learning the letters of the alphabet and their sounds. This second semester I will teach my students how to put their thoughts into sentence form by using their learned sight words along with the letters and sounds gained from the first semester of school. My students will use the alphabet stickers to encourage their thinking and enhance their vocabulary and use of words. My students will leave my Pre-K classroom with confidence that they can write their own sentence.
