Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students look forward to coming to school and finding a good learning place. The students come from a diverse background and attend a school that is 100% free lunch. My class make-up is 50% African American, 48% Hispanic and 2% Caucasian.
Many students move from school to school in the same school year.
In my classroom, I have many students who have learning needs and behavioral needs. With the 25 students in my class, we have many learning styles. Out of all the learning styles available, most of my students are visual learners.
Many of my students have had to deal with family traumas. Every morning, I see the excitement on their faces to be at school. At the end of the school day, they share with me, "How time flies." It is good to know that my students feel the security and their desire to come to school.
My Project
All these materials are in dire need. One of the best tools needed on this list is the document camera. My old one stopped working last school year. There is a shortage of copy paper in my school. The document camera allows me to project a sheet or a book page to everyone. It can be used with my whole group and small group instruction. Also, the document camera will assist in the reduction copy paper.
Another great tool needed is the whiteboards.
The whiteboards are a great use for practice and for student responses in whole and small group. The students enjoy wanting to use the dry boards. At the present time, we do not have enough boards for everyone. Students rush to get a board. Others have to use old lamination. As for the erasers, the students are using old cut up shirts or socks to erase their answers. My students will be appreciative of true dry erasers.
This school year, I have received two used electrical pencil sharpeners. The class is on the second one. It is difficult to complete your work when your pencil point keeps breaking or the pencil sharpener refused to work. We are in need of one lasting the whole school year. For now, we hope the pencil sharpener is working that day.
While learning continues, all of these needed tools can assist the class in going green. When you do not have copy paper then this is another to go green.
