Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in an urban school within a large urban district, I want to provide my culturally, economically, and academically diverse students with a variety of educational opportunities and experiences that promote a growth mindset and exposes them to career paths like engineering and computer science. These fields have traditionally been overlooked in diverse urban classrooms like the one I teach in. The makerspace that I want to create will bring these fields alive in a fun and engaging way with robotics and coding.
My Project
There is a notion in school that “fun” engineering careers can only be pursued after a life time of mastering science and math. Our makers space celebrates robotics and coding in an easy to learn, and engaging environment. The vision is to equip students with technology that is not only important for tomorrow but is also significant and cool today.
Using products like Lego Mindstorms and Arduino Uno, students can create and play while learning the principles of robotics and coding.
We want to encourage students that, like the the journey of learning, engineering can start at any age, old or young. It is never too early to start. So, let the fun begin!
