Students are sure to enjoy this spellbinding mystery book that is written by Brian Selznick with it's colorful characters, graphics, and detail.
Our students come from varied ethnic backgrounds and reading levels, but they are sure to come together while reading this book that is a novel/picture book! Some refer to it as a graphic novel that appeals to all ages.
The 6th grade is a group of enthusiastic readers who enjoy meeting every week with their Literature Circles to discuss their novels. Our goal is to begin reading this novel very soon to keep with our reading goals this year, so if funded, that would help the students a great deal. They all read on different grade levels, but we will come together for this book which is sure to be the cherry on the cake for this exciting unit.
My Project
By reading "The Adventures of Hugo Cabret" our students will be taken on an adventure of a lifetime--simply by reading together!
Our English language learners will have maximum exposure to the English language by reading this novel while following along with the graphics/pictures.
It is a bit challenging teaching ENL students in the upper grades and this is the perfect novel because it is on grade level. This novel is sure to bring the students together as it will encourage rich discussions about the exciting adventures of Hugo Cabret.
Once we finish the novel, we will celebrate by watching the film together and write and discuss the similarities and differences between the film and the novel.
