Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have a class of 20 first graders. My students receive free lunch daily due to their economic status. They all come from low socioeconomic backgrounds, most of them living in single parent households. For these learners, school provides them with their only safe haven and structure.

I have a class of 20 first graders.

My students receive free lunch daily due to their economic status. They all come from low socioeconomic backgrounds, most of them living in single parent households. For these learners, school provides them with their only safe haven and structure. For many of my students, school is the only safe environment they are exposed to. It is a place where they should feel safe and secure from many of life's everyday challenges. These students are amazing survivors. They have ambition and drive, all essential qualities that we, as educators, do our best to nurture and embrace. My students are five and six years old, attending an old building where furniture we have in our classrooms, our tables and chairs. We do however have one to one devices which supports my blended learning approach to learning. We do need more opportunities for student choice and where they can sit to learn the best that they can.

My Project

I envision each student in our classroom having a choice of where they sit during instruction and independent work. Regardless of the amount of regular standard chairs in the classroom, students can independently choose where they want to sit at any time throughout the day to give them choice and accountability for their work. The various seating options will be housed in the classroom. I currently have five tables, each table will be a different option of seating. My students will learn how to share the seats and be conscientious of their classmates and their needs. This will truly benefit those students that have a hard time focusing, have ADD/ADHD, sensory issues, and just any student who needs a change throughout the day.

Donating to our classroom project will have a large impact on our classroom productivity.

The various seating choices will enable students to learn independently while other instruction is occurring, as well as, allow them to choose the best way for them to get their work done and done successfully! We need your help. We need this!
