My Students

The smiles on their faces say it all! Music is what they have chosen to do and have earned their way into the elite orchestra program. For them, it's the highlight of their day and for some, it's a place away from a less-than-happy home life. The MES School of the Arts is a Title 1 fine arts high school located in Clayton County, GA primarily consisting of underprivileged students made up of 79% black, 9% Hispanic, 6% Asian, 4% multi-racial, and 2% white ethnicities. Performing within the top 2% of schools in Georgia, S boasts a 99% graduation rate.

"No problems, only solutions" is the motto of the day in our diverse, Title 1 high school orchestra of 77.

Each year our orchestra performs the highest level 6 repertoire and receives superior ratings at Large Group Performance Evaluations. We are also proud to have a number of students make All-State orchestra each year competing at the state level.

My Project

Our current school inventory of instruments and bows is dwindling and in dire need of replacement/repair to allow advanced high school students to prepare for college. In particular, new bows will help students reach their potential and develop the skills necessary to achieve success in college.

Many students cannot afford their own instruments and rely on the school's outdated and aging instruments.

As students reach collegiate repertoire, it becomes more and more difficult to play on inferior instruments. Students often become discouraged and unmotivated when they are unable to achieve their musical goals and desires. Providing the opportunity is succeed is vital to their future.
