My Students

I am a second-year teacher with the Los Angeles Unified School District. I'm teaching music to 6th, 7th and 8th-grade students at a school located in the heart of Los Angeles, Koreatown. Our students are from diverse and economically challenged backgrounds. In spite of our students' daily challenges, they keep an upbeat and positive outlook on life. One of the programs that we offer our students is our music program. Our students absolutely love and take great pride in learning, playing and performing music together. One of our students wrote, "Music is a beautiful way of expressing yourself. It is unique and makes me feel peaceful, calm and it inspires people. It is an amazing way for people to come together.”

My Project

Our music program is in great need of a set of stage speakers. During concert season our parents often say they cannot hear our ensembles in the back of our auditorium. Having a set of speakers would amplify our instruments so that our entire audience can hear our music. This year for the first time we have soloists in our band; it would be amazing if our young musicians can play their solos with stage speakers. In addition, our guitar ensemble would also benefit immensely because they perform with acoustic guitars and they're the hardest for our audience to hear.
