Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a Title 1 school in Miami Beach. My students are from underprivileged households, mostly non-English speakers. They are passionate about school, they have a great attitude towards learning. We are in the midst of the most sweeping education experiment in history. The pandemic has forced us to find ways to teach without what most important, the daily face-to-face interactions.
My Project
With the access to Write Bright the students can work at their own pace, review material and access to a coach while working at home. In general the students say things like, “I hate writing,” or “I’m just not a good writer.” These kids are unenthusiastic because they have been expected to turn in finished products and have never been taught a process. We need to listen, not talk. As a writing teacher I am the recipient of the work not the judge. I am a coach and confidant. It is hard to coach them while they are at home.
Write Bright uses a guided writing approach taking the writer step-by-step toward responding to text in a way that is effective, creative, and utilizes a reading passage.
As the kids use the program, it motivate them to elaborate and utilize higher levels of vocabulary to paint a picture in the mind of their reader. Students will build practical and creative writing skills through a repetitive formulated teaching method that takes the guess work out of writing.
