My Students
I am a reading teacher at an urban school in Indiana. I am one person, of many, who every day makes a difference in the lives of the students who enter our school. We build readers, writers, thinkers, scientists, historians, and mathematicians.
My school community is comprised of financially struggling families of all races, languages, and religions and extremely hardworking teachers and staff.
My classrooms are made up of students of all abilities, multiple language speakers and a variety of backgrounds. As a community, we are trying to give all the students attending our school an opportunity for a better future.
My Project
I want to bring stories to life. With these storytelling props, I will be able to engage students with books in a whole new way! Using the characters and scenes to walk children through the stories we’re reading will be an experience they won’t forget. Falling in love with that first book, creates life long readers. Students will love watching and listening to stories and getting the opportunity to act it out themselves. By having tangible story elements, they will be able to interact with their favorite characters and become part of the books they love.
