This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are a preschool special education class located in Los Angeles, California, that serves preschool to sixth grade students. The school is located in a very low-income neighborhood, and 100% of the students receive free lunch. The school is surrounded by homeless, traffic, and the freeway. The majority of the students in the school are Hispanic, and we have several newcomers at our school who do not speak English. We also have a very high population of special education students. As a school, our goal is to prepare students who are college bound.
My students are six preschool special education students; some of them have autism and some have speech and language impairment, but they come in every day with smiles on their faces and eager to learn.
My goal as a teacher is to prepare my students for the future and encourage them to love school, now and forever.
My Project
We are a classroom of special needs preschoolers. We all have different needs and like to sit in different ways. We require different items to meet our social and academic needs. The block chairs are great chairs for us to sit in because they give us support on our little bodies that still struggle to sit independently. The soft chairs are for those of us that need that sensory input. Sometimes hard chairs are not comfortable for us to sit on and we need something more comfortable. Overall, we just need different options. Our brains work differently from the average person we are three years old.
