My Students

My students are the most diverse group of individuals you can ever imagine. They are colorful in every sense of the way. They are the children of immigrants, refugees as well as the middle-class Americans. As science students, they are inquisitive, curious and eager to have discussions. Unfortunately, not everyone has the same foundation when it comes to science skills. We are a high need high school and more than fifty percent of our students rely on school resources from food to everything else.

It is extremely important that I provide equity in my classroom.

I have students from highest skills to almost no science skill at all. The most important factor is to have my students build on science skills they already have as well as give those the skills they need for science. Acquiring the 21st-century skills is very important and vital for success in school and the actual world.

My Project

My students are extremely inquisitive. They like to spend time learning hands-on, rather than being buried with paper and textbook. Having spend more than a year at home due to Covid, and learning as well as teaching through zoom is the worst way to teach science.

Now that we are in person, my students and I are thrilled and excited to conduct experiments, engage in actual discussions and learn through hands on experience.

The level of engagement is nothing like I ever seen. There is a new found appreciation by all of us and we will cherish all that we have.
