Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is an inner-city K-5 elementary school located in a low-income neighborhood in North Philadelphia. The entire school is 100% eligible for free meals as well as a designated Title I school. The majority of my first-grade students are Hispanic and learning English as a second language. The community is a clear representation of the school demographics with the majority being Hispanics. Despite their limited English proficiency, they are eager to learn despite their circumstances.
As a consequence of the pandemic, we are going to be 100% virtual for the first quarter.
The MacBook Pro that I am requesting will ensure that I am able to reach out and connect with my students. I want to ensure that the equipment that I have will respond to the needs to facilitate learning with my students and enable me to be there for them during these unprecedented times. Once we return to in-person learning, the computer will be used by the students as a center learning activity. They serve as my inspiration to keep helping them succeed regardless of the circumstances.
My Project
A way to deliver fun and entertaining virtual instruction is engaging students through high-quality technology. It is challenging when I try to share my screen for students to learn while at the same time I have to see my students to determine their level of engagement. This is one of the most frustrating parts of virtual learning. My current school-issued computer does not meet the requirement to achieve a high-quality virtual instruction using the most recent virtual platforms. With the requested MacBook, I will be able to actively monitor my students while sharing my screen (using 2 different devices).
My students will be able to see my shared screen and I will be able to monitor them at the same time with the appropriate tools.
The MacPro will give me the opportunity that I need to give my students a high-quality virtual learning experience given the current circumstances. Learning remotely should be a positive experience for both the students and myself. This would allow great students' and teacher's performance. Once we return to in-person teaching, the computer will be used as a center for students to continue learning skills.
My goal is to provide my students with the best learning opportunities during this new norm (virtual learning).
