My Students

At our Title I middle school, you would never guess some of the many challenges our students face. Despite 50% of our population functioning with 3-4 risk factors, our students come through the doors every day with terrific attitudes and work ethic.

I am proud to be part of helping our racially diverse population of students be empowered and successful, with 45% of the 7th and 8th graders here low income and receiving free or reduced lunch.

And, yet, they are among the most brilliant middle school students one could meet.

My Project

Every year, one of the most costly items I purchase are rulers. Rulers are essential in mathematics: from graphing, to constructions, to create tables and charts. We use rulers almost every single day. Nowadays, the wooden and plastic rulers I purchase seem to be of poorer quality and suffer from chips and bends from gentle use.

Having a trusty set of rulers I can always depend on will make such a huge difference to my classroom and my students.

Not only are these rulers durable, but they have the unique trait of starting each measurement (inches and centimeters) from the SAME SIDE! This is a huge rarity for rulers, and something highly sought after by me!
