My Students
Patience. It is tough to practice when you want to join in the music making experiences going on in class but there aren't enough instruments to go around! Your donation will provide a set of hand bells that will let every student join in the thrill of making music.
I teach in a rural school district and see nearly 450 students in Kindergarten through 6th grades.
Community members often feel isolated as they must drive 20 minutes to the nearest town to buy groceries and other necessities. The community offers no local fine arts performance opportunities or musical venues. Students must travel over an hour and a half for cultural events like concerts and art museums. For most students experiences with musical instruments, dance and composing come only at school.
My Project
Your donation to this project will provide hand bells for students to use in practicing reading music and composing. The design of the bells allows for ringing (shaking the bell) or tapping (like a keyboard) to make music. This allows students with varying degrees of physical control to participate at their level. The bright and colorful design will keep them engaged on reading, playing and improvising.
Students have few opportunities for using individual instruments in the classroom due to a lack of instruments. By giving students an instrument to hold during each activity, students learn to read and play music, improvise, compose and perform as an ensemble. They can hear how good working together can be!
