The students I work with come from a variety of different backgrounds, socioeconomic statuses, cultures, and family dynamics. Our school is a place where we work to ensure students feel welcome and safe 100% of the time. Our school is made up of students coming from all over the suburban Minneapolis area including: New Hope, Golden Valley, Plymouth, Crystal, and even North Minneapolis.
Each one of our students brings a special and unique perspective to our learning environments that enriches the learning of all students.
It is exciting to not only watch and facilitate the learning that takes place in the classrooms, but it is amazing to learn from the students and their personal experiences each day. It is a dream to be able to help them find the love in learning!
My Project
Middle school is a great time for students to become involved in their community. With our middle school, opening this year, it is the perfect time to start a school garden, in order to foster a sense of belonging and build community, not only in our school, but the local community as well. We look forward to seeing vegetables and herbs growing in our gardens with our students!
Building, maintaining, and growing a community garden will foster students' sense of belong through community involvement.
The community garden at our middle school will supply vegetables and herbs to be used in FACS classes, by our cafeteria staff, staff members, and even our families in the community. Additional vegetables and herbs will have the opportunity to be donated to a local food shelf to provide needs for local community. This project encourages community involvement from students and builds on the sense of belonging to a larger community from our students. Furthermore, students will be able to execute fundraisers for further learning supplements using products from their garden.
This garden has endless growing potential, but we need your help to get our project started! With this being the grand opening year for our community garden, we need many of the basics including: potting soil, vegetable and herb seeds, along with shovels and tools, a hose and watering attachment, in order to give proper care to our growing plants! Without these essential growing tools and the seeds themselves, our community garden will remain a great idea, and we want to benefit our students and growing community, making this a reality!
