Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are an energetic and lively bunch, but many need support managing their big emotions. We currently utilize a calm down corner with tactile and visual options to calm frustrated brains in our classroom. However, some students need more guidance to return to a peaceful state allowing them to continue learning. Some students might need further sensory separation from the noisy classroom environment to return to calm.

This project seeks to use audio to guide students to regulate their body and mind in order to be ready to learn.

The Toniebox is an engaging way to help students do this using songs and calming techniques. The different Tonies, or characters, provide different input such as mindfulness, yoga, self-regulation, classical music, upbeat music, and so on to use in different situations. There are also creative Tonies that allow content to be recorded and re-recorded. This will allow me to record individual messages, music, etc. based on student needs. The Toniebox and characters can also be used whole group to provide practice in self-regulation.
