My Project
This project builds on Part 1, which funded a full digital piano setup for a musically gifted and self-motivated student in a Title I urban public school. As a young Black artist with no formal training and no instrument at home, he’s already shown a rare level of musical instinct—spending his own time composing, improvising, and learning by ear.
This is a project about equity—about giving a student with talent, grit, and heart the tools to rise—he’s already creating something powerful with almost nothing, so imagine what he’ll do with real support.
He is a gifted, self-taught young Black composer—one who comes to the music room whenever he has a chance to improvise at the piano, teaches himself using his ear, and brings a rare level of dedication, creativity, and potential that deserves real tools and real opportunity.
To continue his growth, I’m requesting a touchscreen iPad and two one-time-purchase music apps: Skoove and Synthesia. These apps provide interactive lessons, composition tools, and real-time feedback—giving him structured support even without internet access or private lessons. They’ll serve as his virtual teacher, creative partner, and musical workspace.
He sees the world through music—let’s give him the tools to discover the artist he’s destined to be and see just how far his talent can go.
