My Students

My school is a public, charter school providing students (learners) in grades 6-8 a hands-on STEAM, aerospace-focused, and project-based curriculum. We are the first school in the nation to be located right at an airport in Englewood, Colorado. We are part of the CDE (Colorado Department of Education) and the CCSI (Colorado Charter School Institute).

Our learners come from all over the Denver area, from Franktown to Aurora to Arvada and beyond.

This diversity brings different perspectives to our classrooms. Some of our learners have been homeschooled and some are just looking for a different type of school and have found their home at CSA!

Our learners are creative thinkers and very excited about learning! Our curriculum focuses on core academic competencies, in addition to key focus areas that will prepare learners for promising careers in aerospace and technology. I teach 7th grade World History/Social Studies.

This quarter I am offering a model building elective in which students will build a model, research its significance and its connection to their potential future careers as aviators or in STEM.

My Project

One of the most important aspects of project based learning is allowing students the opportunity to use their own voices and interests to further their education. These materials were specifically requested by students due to their personal significance. Here are some of the students requests:

"I want to build a music box from the 1770s because music is important to me."

"I would like to do the 747-400 because my family has been in aviation for a very long time and I love planes."

"I would be interested in building a model of a F-105 Thunderchief. This is one of my favorite aircraft and it is one of the best fighter/ fighter-bombers of its time."

By building models, students will learn more about the engineering, history, and may develop life-long hobbies.

Students will stay safe and healthy by working exclusively with their own materials rather than sharing with their whole class.

Hands-on learning always engages and stimulates students to go the extra mile.
