Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am so very fortunate to have a class that is made up of so many diverse children. Many of my students are immigrants from Bangladesh and come to this country not knowing English. I have the opportunity and privilege to help them become accustomed to ​American culture. Many of my students' parents are also very involved in learning the English language.

Being new to the country, many of my students are eager and excited to learn.

They often help each other, and watching them soak up the English language and culture is wonderful!

My Project

My students are rapidly discovering the connection between numbers and money. We run a class store, where they earn "dollars" in order to purchase certain items. They are learning the value of our "money."

But I want my children to have a true understanding about the power of being financially independent.

I discovered there are great websites that would provide invaluable information. We are going to take advantage of these websites, to provide valuable information about saving and planning for your financial future. I plan on setting up class savings accounts and teaching my students the difference between "wants" and "needs".

I feel once children recognize that money is in simple terms just numbers, they will be able to grasp the basics about saving and investing for the future.

Children need to play and use a quality desktop computer in order to gain deeper understandings about a subject. Quite frankly, I can not think of any more serious subject than their financial well being. This is just the first step along the journey of a deeper understanding of how math is all around their world.
