Help me give my students noise cancelling headphones so that they can control how much for the outside world they listen to when focusing on their work.
My students are absolutely amazing in every way. Our class is complete with 25 enthusiastic, curious, and animated first graders from a range of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Our class is an integrated co-teaching (ICT) classroom meaning that a portion of our students have special needs. Our needs range from speech and language disorders to autism but none of the labels stop any of the students from trying their hardest and always exceeding expectations. These 25 students are dedicated and excelling in the classroom is the norm!
Our class of students are a unique, clever, determined, and persistent bunch with a range of interests and needs - making each and every lesson new and exciting!
My co-teacher and I take a very hands-on approach to education which allows students to demonstrate their learning in a variety of ways.
My Project
My students need a class set of noise cancelling headphones so that they can take ownership of their learning and understand how they work best (with background noise or no noise at all). A lot of our students enjoy listening to music during lessons, but there are also some students who prefer to have silence. Some students seem to like music at some points and quiet at others. My first graders are learning how to be independent and push themselves to do their best work at all times of the day--I want to teach them how to find that optimal learning environment so that they can be the best version of themselves.
Providing my students with noise cancelling headphones would give the freedom of making important and personal academic choices that directly impact their education.
There are times when some students are engaging in collaborative conversations while others are working on catching up with their work. In these moments, I want to make sure that each student has access to headphones that can help them cancel out the surrounding classroom noise so that they can focus on the task at hand. Every individual learns differently and allowing my students to explore all types of environments and noise levels will help them gain independence and learn about their personal optimal learning.
