This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Each of my students have Social, Emotional, & Mental Health needs as well as individual Learning Needs which I strive to meet every day. It can be difficult to get disengaged students to take ownership of their learning. It is important to offer our students as much support as possible to aid in empowering our students to contribute to the lessons. As our photography program is growing, our equipment is getting older and we are slowly trying to repair, maintain and buy new equipment. We have worked hard to build a class camera set so each student has use of their own camera for class time. However with high enrollment in our programs our equipment is put to the test everyday and is used to its limits. Unfortunately equipment breaks due to accidents, mistakes or it just "wears out". We are in need of replacement lenses and tripods every year.
Photography provides an opportunity for our students to express emotions.
Art can provide a creative outlet for expressing and processing emotions, particularly those that are difficult to put into words. Using a camera and a lens is the perfect opportunity for our students to show how they see the world.
As our photography program continues to grow and evolve, our goal is to give students access to a more engaging, professional, hands-on photography experience with the opportunity to connect with the larger world.
Our art program is evolving; we are trying to make it the strongest program it can be. My students are eager to learn. By offering my students access to enough materials and supplies, it helps create experiences that invests in them, as well as motivates and enables them to explore post-secondary opportunities.
