Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Every day I am welcomed by the students of my school as they make their way into the building.
Wiggly, rambunctious, and loving - those are three words to describe the group of students I service.
Many of the students in my building are English Language Learners and come from low-income families.
In my classroom, my students are learning how to become better readers and writers. We are diving into books each day and looking for new activities and resources to help promote independence with reading.
My Project
Many of my students tell me that they do not have any books to read at home. While they do visit the school library every other week, many of them need access to books more frequently. Additionally, many children prefer to have a hard copy of a book and not a digital version.
In order to create lifelong readers, we need to provide children with access to books daily.
With the funding of this project, I will be able to create a lending library for my students. This will be housed in my classroom, with easy access for any K-3 student. This project is focused on books appropriate for my second and third grade students.
