Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember going to the library and being excited to pick a book you would love to read or even look at? The majority of my students have never been to a library, so I would like to bring the library to them and spark the love of literacy and reading early in their lives!
My students are preschoolers in an inner city public school Head Start program.
All of my students family income are at or below federal poverty guidelines. They are smart, vivacious, and curious young children looking for responses to their questions and wonders through books.
My Project
Children love to look at books, especially those they choose. I am looking to get a library cart I can fill with books students can take home and read. The cart will enable storing potential for the lending library books. The students will have many choices similar to a those in a neighborhood library.
With a cart that holds books, students can choose and check out to take home, the students will have literacy experiences in the home.
Through these experiences, the students will build background knowledge, make connections, build vocabulary, and develop imagination as the authors they have been exposed to.
