My Students

Our elementary school is located in North Charleston, South Carolina. Our school has a very diverse population of over 950 students. Our students come from various socioeconomic backgrounds. We also have the largest Hispanic population in the district. Teachers at my school love to create fun, hands-on experiences. We incorporate technology and integrate the arts daily in our classrooms to encourage our students’ highest potential. We have become a STEAM school where we are training to be the best teachers we can be for students of the 21st century.

I am a Kindergarten teacher of 11 years. Since I began teaching, I have fallen crazily in love with our mix of students. Every year, I create a family environment in my classroom that facilitates learning. We learn together the standards that will make us successful and the skills that will make us supportive citizens of our community. I hope to make the first year of school one that all my students remember, one that helps them become lifelong learners and one that creates in them an enthusiastic love of learning.

My Project

Let’s put kids in charge of their own learning! I would like to provide students the option of choosing a differentiated seat so that they develop more ownership of their work that will guide their independence as a learner and strengthen their bodies. Some of my students have been born into circumstances that leaves them no choices. Using pillows and wobble stools allows each student their own choice of comfort while learning and working on task. My hope is that by offering numerous choices throughout their day it will build muscle but a trust and respect that we wouldn’t have had otherwise. Our classroom family must have a warm welcoming feel and trusting relationships to create the best environment for their highest learning potential!
